Upcoming Trainings...
Greetings Buckeye Lake Sailors!
We have a number of upcoming training opportunities available to remind you of this week. Please consider any or all of these that you may find interesting. Unless otherwise specified, these trainings are held at BLYC.

ODNR Safe Boating Course
Saturday, February 23 • 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Once again this year, Buckeye Lake Junior Sailing will be hosting a Safe Boating Course put on by ODNR at the Club. Our instructors will be local Watercraft Officers. This course is open to ALL Buckeye Lake boaters (age 12 and older). To register, please click here. Space is limited.
Questions? Contact Mike Bruckelmeyer for more information.
Race Committee 101
Sunday, March 3 • 1:00 pm
US Sailing Area Race Officer Steve Harris will teach this brief (~ 2 hours) introduction to Race Committee. The program is designed for those who wish to help on Race Committee (not necessarily become certified to be a Principal Race Officer) and is a good introduction to RC work. This season, we are encouraging each participating boat to provide RC personnel from time to time for our Sail on Sundays Series. This is a great opportunity to learn all about it!
Questions? Contact Steve Harris for more information.
Racing Rules Seminar
Sunday, April 14 • 1:00 pm
Steve Harris will present a brief seminar on Part 2 of the Racing Rules of Sailing ("When Boats Meet"). The primary focus will be on Rules 10-13 (Right of Way) along with a bit on Rules 14-19 which govern right of way in specific situations (such as mark-roundings). This is intended to be an introductory course for those new to the sport and those who can benefit from a brief "refresher."
Questions? Contact Steve Harris for more information.
US Powerboating Instructor Course
May 30 - June 2 • The Foundry Sailing Center, Cleveland
Successful sailing programs depend on qualified powerboat operators - mark boats, safety boats, etc. The Foundry Sailing Center in Cleveland will be offering US Powerboating courses this spring. Here is the information from Cathy Newpher, Director of Sailing at the Foundry:
We are all set to run a US Sailing Safe Powerboat Handling Instructor Course at the Historic Coast Guard Station beginning May 31st. Please check the US Powerboating website for information regarding prerequisites and registration. I realize it is early, but we already have one person signed up so far and we don’t want you to miss out. For those who do not have their Safe Powerboat Handling certification, we will run an accelerated course on May 30th to satisfy the prerequisite. Registration for the accelerated course will be handled by the Foundry. (It is a separate registration... Click here to register)
If you have any questions,
please feel free to contact me.
Enjoy the rest of your day!
Cathy
